Can anyone tell how to burn my AVI file movie to a DVD? What software I would need to compress and burn to a standard 4.7 DVD? Is it possible. I see PC's have some Freeware that compress and then burn. Any suggestions? I thank you in advance. Gordon

u should be able to fit a 6.7[bold]MB[/bold] onto a 4.7[bold]GB[/bold] DVD, unless u meant 6.7 GB. then u would have to reduce the quality of it

if u have a avi file then u need 2 convert it 2 a video_ts so it can be burned on a DVD. u convert it by using ffmpegX, but it costs like $15.00. once it is in video_ts format, and it is above 4.7GB then you need to shrink it by using dvd2onex. again dvd2onex cost $$$$ so u will need to buy it. these programs do have a free trail but it doesn't do the whole movie so you r better of buying it any way.

    Hi,
This is a windows .exe file application. It does not work on Mac, unless you may have some insight on how to make it work. At any rate, I was able to get an AVI file on DVD by importing the file into iMovie, and then burning it on DVD through iDVD. iMovie was able to import both audio and video, unlike some MPGs that need to be converted to DV files in order to import the audio and video into iMovie.
Hope that helps other users too.
    Thanks again.

Thank you. I have a external burner, and I have tried to burn from iDVD before, and my mac doesn't seem to like the external burner. Any suggestions on this issue?

    Hi,
I am not sure why your mac is giving you some problems when working with an external drive. But try posting your question on the Mac website.

I have toast, so what are you referring to, or suggesting that I do? Thanks for the post.

    hey..

use toast to burn the files onto the dvd..
need to know what format the files are in before we go on..
i'm sure there's a forum in here on how to do the different formats.. you may just need to search for them

I've tried searching....my files that I download are a .avi file, so if anyone knows what to do with that within toast, I would be so thankful!

on that one you can use the video tab and burn it that way..
i'm pretty sure mediaguru would know that one better.

    edit:
if you are using idvd or imovie you can use that to burn it, and you can use patchburn to burn to the external.
