Hey everyone, I just finished downloading DVDFab and DVD Shrink (2 programs i'm told that together can take a DVD I own and make a copy of). Now, I've already used DVDFab to rip the DVD and saved it to my laptop. I then opened DVD Shrink and everything checked out OK (already decrypted courtesy of DVDFab). DVD Shrink is now showing a screen with the file details on the left and the compression setting on the right (the settings are already selected to fit in the DVD-R disk I have at the ready). What now? I've played around with it but don't know what the next steps are. How do I get this file compressed and burned onto a DVD-R disk? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Here's my laptop specs if that helps me get an answer: Dell XPS M1330 Core 2 Duo DVD/CD burner 3GB Ram 128MB Nvidia Chip Windows Vista Home Premium Thanks again.

didn't know if i should start a new thread or just put it here.... quick question....or 2 i downloaded the new defab5 after "doing" the whole disc do i still need to run the fix vts or dvd shrink? i am used to just using ripit4me, but couldn't get the disc (tinkerbell) to work, so from previous posts i am trying it through defab. also through the free version of defab5 i can only choose dvd9. can i run it with that then shrink it with dvd shrink to put it on a dvd5? if so do i still have to run the fixvts? lastly, which i will probably find out when i am done ripping, but can i burn from defab5 or should i go through dvd decrypter to burn it? sorry again for all the questions, i am just used to the wonderful fixit4me, where all i do is click one thing then the rest starts up for me, i am not used to all these other programs and steps yet. thanks again for the help, jennifer
DVDFab doesn't yet quite produce the cleanest rips; some use FixVTS, i am of the vobblanker club personally. Both programs can be used in/for very complex things, but for cleaning rips they are very simple to use. In vobblanker you simply point vobblanker to the directory containing the files that DVDFab ripped. You specify an output directory and just hit the Process button. Then use whatever program you would normally use, just use the vobblanked directory as the input to said program.. edit- i should add that i have never used Riptit4me nor do i know much about it, i'm just commenting on how i do things..
thanks for the reply, i will try that now........ so far defab says it is done, but when trying to use shrink it says VOB file not found, then i tried to just burn with both decrypter and imageburn and there is no ISO file to write....... so now i am totally lost, i will try you suggestion and let you know, but now i am having problems with my dvd burner so this may all be for nothing at this moment...... thanks again, jennifer
Sounds like a classic case of 'dirty' rips, try FixVTS or vobblanker and let us know how you get on..
i started fresh and ran vobblanker from the dvd, but what do i do now? i tried to use shrink, and it starts then i get 93% through analysing then i get and error that states: DVD shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Programming error- exception occured. then it closes and i can send one of those error report things. so, what is my next step after vobblanker so i can burn to dvd? ripit4me is wonderful for people like me, you click the 1-click method and it starts out decrypter, then when that is finished it runs the VTS fix, then it starts shrink, then after that dycrypter again to burn. very few clicks and very little i have to know about what i am doing. thanks again.
