if you have mtr... once you put it on the computer.. its not encrypted. so that's why we can use toast or dvd2OneX...

toast 7 does the same thing that popcorn and toast in one.. with popcorn you can choose just the movie, or full disk.. compression on it is pretty good..

but DTOX (dvd2OneX) gives you those same options, and a few extra ones.. but it does do much better compression...

its really up to you. i actually have all that software.. yes it did cost a bit but its all good..

just one thing with MTR.. its better sometimes to do just a full disk and then just choose the options you want..

you could just do mtr to dvd2OneX, once its compresed.. you can use dvd imager to make the image and then burn with disk utility..

mainly a trial and error thing...

    and most important thing...
[bold]never buy cheap media.. only get verbatims, TY's [/bold]
there is other good media out there.. but those are like the top two..

there are also dual layered dvds.. then you wont need compression.
but the media is a bit more expensive...

    hope that helps

Thanks thelox. that helps alot! I don't mind spending the $ if it's worth it, and I don't mind having a few pieces of software if some do things better than others. I appeciate your help & can't wait to start ripping & burning. I am gonna go get the rest of the software today so I can play over the weekend & experiment. This has been the best & most helpful place to get info from. I have been looking & asking for info for a couple weeks now & this has been the best response. You gus really know what you're taliking about. I hope to become as good as some of you so I can help others too.

    help out...

im ripping an instruction DVD with different chapters with MTR. i used title only and i ripped 3 titles of the dvd. they all don't fit on one dvd so i'm putting 2 on one dvd and the other one on another. i'm using TOAST 7.

problem i have is that under the video tab of DVD from video_ts, i have tried to drag and drop my video_ts folder in there but it gives me an error. i've tried to burn it under the data tab of DVD-ROM (UDF) but i just ended up with a coaster. can someone help me out and tell me how i can burn these titles unto a dvd playable on my phillips dvd player?

i love this forum by the way, it's a mac-dvd-ripping-burning's dream. thanks for all ur help senior members!!

    ok..

since you split them up you need to join them as one VIDEO_TS folder...

you need something like dvd2OneX to do this.. then run that thru toast.

MTR is hanging up and has seems to have paused after 10 mins of ripping. I don't know if this is the disk or the program. The green light is still on.
If successful, should I drop the VOB folder into POPcorn when I am finished ?

I'm trying to burn Twin Peaks, a TV series. Each disc has two episodes. I keep running
across the same problem, though. When I play my new copy, the shows are really
garbled/pixelated. (The menus are fine, though). This is the first time I've had this
    problem.

Edit: It works when I play it on the computer, but I've tried 2 DVD players (my PS2, which
plays all my burned DVDs and my neighbor's new Memorex DVD player), and it doesn't
work. The video is pixelated garbled on the PS2, and there's no video on the Memorex.
    Just audio.

I'm ripping and burning full disc, since feature only wouldn't work in this case.
    I'm using MTR and Popcorn.
    ibook G4
    memorex 16x discs
I've varied the burn speed, too. So far, six failed attmepts.

I've burned other stuff with this equipment and the memorex discs, and I've had no
problems. I've never tried to burn a TV series, though.
Any suggestions? Is this a popcorn issue? Is it a TV/multiple main feature problem?

I am hoping some one can guide me in the right direction.

I am trying to cut only only a portion of a DVD. The DVD has chapters and Titles. Meaning. I am not sure how to do this. Is there a way to only to modify one chapter, and write it back as a .vob and use some thing like Toast to write it back to a DVD.

I can convert only one chapter into a MPEG-2 using Cinematize and modify it. But not sure how to combine it with rest of the .vob files.

Do I have to convert all files (entire DVD) to DV or MPEG-2 and take it iMovie and recreate chapters, and then through iDVD write to DVD? Is there a easier way to do this? I don't mind buying a reasonably priced software if it is going to help.
