Looks like an old M-1 Garand carbine if I'm not mistaken. Good for defending daughters against dating, think I'll buy one, either that or an M-14.

Ruger has a rifle that looks something like that. The mini 30 (.223).

If this isn't it, someone borrowed the patent. Larger clips have been available, but the one from the factory fits flush with the stock.

The mini is a short ranch rifle. It's short and Ruger claims it's good for carrying on horseback or anywhere a more maneuverable gun would be handy, such as home defense. The mini 30 is chambered in the 7.62x39mm, same as some of the light Warsaw pact military rifles (AK 47, SKS). With aftermarket parts, the gun turns into a good semi auto assault rifle. Before such things were outlawed, a person could get flash suppressors, folding stocks, high capacity clips, and a lot of other goodies to turn the little ranch gun into a high capacity assault weapon.

Been to a couple of those big time gun shows. ;)

Nowadays it's not wise to brandish a weapon, even in photos. Not so long ago a student could take his hunting rifle to school for show and tell with his buddies. If a teacher saw it, he'd just say, "come over here and look at mine". Since 9/11 the mind set has changed. Show up in a public place with a gun and you're likely to have the police and/or spy services asking questions and checking your orifices.

Actually the mini-30 is chambered in the 7.62x39mm round, same as an AK-47. You're thinking of the mini-14.

Oh and it's a good hunting rifle as well. Since it's not .223 you can use it for deer in most places(just not the big deer lol). Removed the pic since I didn't want the feds at my place lol.

Yeah but rifle like the mini-14 were already being outlawed(at least bigger clips and such) because they were very effective assualt rifle employed by the Columbian guerrillas.

You're right, I was. They're basically the same gun, only different caliber. The 30 in the Mini 30 name denotes the caliber. 7.62x39mm belongs to the 30 caliber family. All the accessories I mentioned were for both models of the Mini. As for the outlawing, it only lasted for a while. Big clips and everything are legal once again after a short ban under the previous Democratic administration. It's a political game between Democrats and Republicans, what was banned isn't for now. Further gun discussion would be best conducted in Neph's polite gun thread.

Actually my favorite rifle is a Remington model 700 in a .22-250 with a 4-12X scope. Hated by many woodchucks and crows. Spent my high school years removing said pests from neighboring farm fields.
A sure sign I'm getting old, one of my classmates actually made a wooden stock for his dad's hunting rifle in shop class. Brought the action in and completed all of the tooling and finishing right in the wchool. My how the times have indeed changed.

Sweet varmint gun and very accurate. I like my deer rifle, Model 4 Remington in .30-06 (7.62x63mm). Change the load and it handles everything from light dear and hogs up to bears. I used to deer hunt in bear country and wanted something to keep them out of the tent. ;) For long range target shooting I use a 10 round clip, so I'm not reloading as much.
