any new boards for p4's will be using the socket 775 type cpu which is not compatible with what you have now.

thanks. i still have no response and no way to fix it. here is what i have done so far. did the battery thing for 24 hours and no go. so i ordered a plcc extractor and when it gets here imma take out my bios chip. Go to badflash.com and see if they can send me one flashed for my mobo spec. i tried to reset the cmos and bios but nothing is labeled on my mobo. also i check hp and it shows itnext to the battery. i looked and crossed everything that looked like the cmos soldered jumper. nothing.

Hi i'm new here and i hope i'm in the right place.
I have an old computer i want to keep for the kids.
    it now has a 667 intel 3 processor . I have come
across a 797 intel processor and was wondering if
i could exchange it with the 667. I know how to install
it but is there anything else i would have to do other
than putting it in place if it can be done at all.
Any help would be welcome. Thanks, MartJoe

martjoe, should start your own thread so as not to confuse everybody. also is a forum rule no no for hijacking another member's thread.
