    @wglee -

    - your firmware is 5 versions out of date, 1.0C is here - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1596

    - DMA needs to be ON, fix via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

    - 4464MB is burning too close to outer edge of discs. If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space

    - see other comments

    - CDRALW2K.SYS is part of Roxio. try uninstalling Roxio (doesn't always play well with Nero), then you might need to fully remove using Roxio Zapper - http://www.microadvantage.net/utilities

    creaky,

    I posted an older log file by mistake, I had already done everything you mentioned except removing Roxio and the MusicMatch files discussed above.

    One (or both)of those fixes did the job.

    Many thanks.

    alright, same problem when writing an 8 speed imation dvd+r
    other dvd's (platinum 8 speed +r and fuji 4 speed dvd+rw) doing fine though.
    drive is a rw8160 (ricoh) built in in a targa notebook. it can only write at 2.4 speed

    firmware was 1.08 since some time, and it seems that's the most recent one. dma is on.
    i found a trick on the net that showed how to "upgrade" my drive to rw 8165 by using that firmware. i tried it out and then, i could only burn the dvd's 4 speed (8165 drive is capable of that, but mine probably isn't, even though i might get it to think it is :))
    anyway, i tried it, same error. however, i could still write my old dvd's (the platinum & fuji ones) at 2.4 speed. that worked fine.
    by now, i changed back to rw 8160 and 1.08. i'm totally out of ideas. could it be that my drive just doens't like these disks? :( silly, bought 100 of them ...

    Hello everyone. I am having the same problem. The thing is, I had to reinstall my comp, and before I had the same setup as now, but before I was able to burn things fine. My computer is Dell 4150, NEC DVD burner. And I believe I have everything updated to the most recent releases. I have iTunes on my comp, and McAffe AntiVirus. Here is my log:
    Any help would be appreciated.

    [bold]Finalize CD : FALSE

    Check your Nero settings(you don't want multi-session) to make sure you are finalizing the disk (has to be finalized to be playable) and do a simulation burn.

    @laptop9

    The drive firmware is up to date.
    Your media is good.

    Try a Nero update to 6.6.0.18
    http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php
    Don't download the toolbar helper that's checked off on the D/L page.

    [bold]CdRomPeripheral : SW3934E UYO908Z 1.0 dtscsi Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off[/bold]

    Is that a virtual drive?Don't think it does anything but you could try to turn DMA on.

    http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking DMA.pdf

    After that it's the turn of the experts.

    @simoza -

    hi and welcome, let's see if i can get you burning up a storm..

    - not too bad, 6.6.0.18 is latest 6.x version; (i used 6.6.0.0 with zero problems for quite a while myself)

    - i don't see many Freecom drives around these days. anyway, this link seems to have an older version of your firmware, 1.33, and that's dated April 2004!!, so unless Freecom's website has newer firmware, you're gonna have to stick to older blank discs (i know this drive is an OEM NEC ND-1300A so you're limited as to what speed blank media you can buy)

    - 4465MB is burning too close to outer edge of discs. If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space

    - i've heard of these discs but can't remember any details about them, or if they're any good

    - i'd try better blank discs as there's not much else wrong in the logfile

    @HugoFSous -

    hi and welcome also, let's see if i can get you burning up a storm too..(edit- no we won't as i recognise the problem straight away, your burner's firmware is too old)...here goes anyway.....

    - version 1.03 of your firmware is here, but dated April 2004!!, so the firmware is way out of date to cope with newer media.. - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1815

    - sufficient total memory but no free memory left. you need to close down more programs prior to ALL burning/dvd work to ensure sufficient free memory

    - your blank discs aren't being recognised, due to the firmware being so old. this is similar to what you should see -
    - ie a 3line paragraph when the firmware's up to date. The firmware has been neglected by Ricoh since April 2004 (unless their own website has something newer though i very much doubt it). see here for more info as i've gone into much detail on this particular drive/firmware over last few days - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/265841

    - see previous comment

    @HugoFSous -

    snippet from the link i gave you in my logfile reply
    - Basically you need to keep finding older blank discs that your burner is able to use, as it's unable to use those newer discs. Or you need to buy a new burner (and i'd stay away from Ricoh, they don't seem to support their products for very long)

    @greavsy -

    let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar.

    You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"
