    getting rid of some of the fourms and streamlining things may help also like the Safety valve and keeping it a Tech fourm like it should be would solve some problems

    Some of us original old timers, spend much of the time just browsing the forums, tend not to involve as much since pgEdit been introduced. But still we linger in the shadows.

    As we all know, ripping involves a lot more time and labour than previous, but as time goes, the software rippers redevolop, update and occasionally pop in when theres a major problem.

    Take care peeps.

    @ darthnip:

    darthnip i agree with most of this sentence except for

    As soon as you give people an inch they will take a mile , it would be better if you just make it if they see something that is offensive use the button as if i told some one to edit there post they would probably jack up and say 'hey your not a mod'.
    So by just reporting the problem should be enough for the mods to just come in and finish it up.People are not going to like this comment from me as in my earlier days i did encounter this kind of thing and yes i did say you need to edit your post and a common reply was 'hey piss off your not a mod' but after a pleasant chat will dela who enlightened me (end of 2005) with how he would like to see the site evolve it seems that the button gets used more and slowly but surely the site is starting to get cleaned up.We still have idiots who flame each other, leave there serials in there posts , are stupid at posting offensive pics with out really thinking that the content is questionable but that is what happens when you have a site so large with so many different individuals.
    But you have the enforcers who are really quick to fix these issues, ddp/creaky/you/ and with flip218 and neph back any one who transgresses wether that be newbie or addict you all better watch out.The thunder ,lightening and a few other castrophes are back in full swing..............dont you think

    Anyway my 20c

    I don't understand the logic of throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Can't we just stop counting posts made to the safety valve? There is a contradiction here which many have pointed out but which always seems to fall on deaf ears. If one goes to the forums' home page, the safety valve, by virtue of the definition stated, was created with the "irrelevant" in mind; virtually none of the threads there have any function other than amusement: football thread? bad thing about high school? Ireland's Coffee? user name origin? friday's jokes? I've had a lot of laughs and a lot of fun in many of them despite "irrelevance" which is the stated point of that forum. There is another guy in the safety valve who must have added 100 posts to his count by going around accusing others of "padding" their post counts. In areas in which I have knowledge, I do my share in the forums but when that is done or the forum is slow, what's wrong with having a little fun in the threads named above or others of a similar nature? We recently lamented the loss of one of our addicts who left for personal reasons, I worked with him a lot in the receivers/amplifiers forum yet the majority of folks who commented did so because of his sense of humor, his ability to make you laugh so hard your side hurt and we all miss him. Yes, he helped a people a great deal but very few of those who commented on his leaving were speaking of his contributions in receivers and amps but rather his hysterical posts in the safety valve...his "irrelevant" posts in "irrelevant" threads. We never would have known him if some had had their way. If we stop counting the posts in the safety valve, then those obcessed with complaining about post counts will be appeased while those who think enjoyment needn't be "relevant" can continue plaing in the safety valve without having some angry guy busting in and raining all over their parade with accusations and complaints which should have gone to admin. Both groups get what they want. Sorry...just my two cents...Gerry

    i hear ya. it's the annoying buggers that do use the valve as a place for totally and utterly pointless stuff (ie stuff that shouldn't be in there), and worse than that those same ppl do the same in the other forums then when some posters see it they think it's ok for them to do the same (and some of 'em even have the gall to moan when their particular 'post' is closed or edited); we then get the "but you didn't close such and such's post".

    i agree it's a place to let off steam and i haven't a problem with that but it should still not be abused. one analogy i have are the youngsters in console forum threads; a thread will start, then one person posts an email address. then most of the other posters follow suit, almost doing it on auto-pilot as the first poster has set the ball rolling.. so all i'm saying is if it's allowed to degenerate, the knock-on affects other forums, and some of those forums i wish had never been created as they degenerate all by themselves (no forums named *cough* console forums *cough*)

    Ah, I see your point. To paraphrase someone a few posts back, you mods are the boss'(es?) you do a great job and you know what you're doing...thats why they pay you the big bucks ;-). I for one have a great time at aD so, your moderatorships, you lead and I shall follow (is that brown-nosey enough guys LOL!).

    @gerry1 - lol

    @andmerr -
    - indeed, and as ever we're relying on the regulars to keep helping by reaching for the offensive post button every chance they get, and between us we'll get rid of as much of the crud as we can, and keep the pondlife at bay.
