I'm a recent convert to apple. I travel quite a lot and would like to be able to play DVDs from different regions on my macbook pro. I'm not really interested in copying the movies, just playing them.

When I had a laptop PC I used a utility called DVD43 which would effectively bypass the region checking. Is there anything like this for macs?

    Cheers.

Or am I supposed to assume that PCs are better than macs?!

There's a neato media player out there called VLC... found this by doing a google search... ahhh, the wonders of google. I think i've conquered every computer issue i've ever had by entering in crazy combos of key words.

    Product found here:

Now, are pc's better, .... well, there's more stuff out there for pc's, they can do just about the same job as a mac. BUT, I would say that with everyday use of both platforms over the past 12 years..... I like using my 3 macs better. I bring my macbook to work everyday and work with it right beside my Windows machine. I couldn't live without it.

--- one last thought, you could use MacTheRipper to rip it to your hard drive and remove the region code that way. md.

    Hey Soulfate,

I've also recently started using a Macbook Pro and I found this useful link that explains how to turn your dvd to region free.

I didn't try it myself yet, but listen to what it says and you can try it at your own risk.

    Hope it helps,
