i think post counts should be removed from console forum posts. (in fact i should request this of the Admins); maybe then some of the utter crap posting will cease (and along with it a lot of irrelevant questions like status and post counts would decrease); i am sick and tired of reading thru kiddie posts full of pointless little one liners such as "lol" and you're gay" and "what console is better than what console". ARGHHHHHHHHHh /end rant

there's a reason i only step into the console forums about once a month, and even then it's rare i get to a point where i'm actually helping someone because of the lunatic kids on there. it's just like walking into some kind of natural disaster and damage control scene.

just found this on the net, please no insult to any one..

    children of the Consoles board

    1. Humans under the age of 13 or so. Many of which were accidently conceived. Lots of children these days are annoying, spoiled, bitchy and stupid. Commonly known as stupid short people.

    2. Spawn of Satan hatched from a dark egg in the center of the earth with devils that are cutting themselves standing in a circle around it.

3.Annoying little bitches who cry and whine until they get what they want.

    Mom: I hate our kids.
Dad: Me too, maybe we should tie them to a post and light them on fire?
Mom: Okay i will get the gasoline.

sigh, case in point - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/410721/2490053

The thing is, i'm serious about the kiddies, it's getting to the stage where i feel like banning entire threads full of pointless posters (have done that before, that was the most sense that came out of those threads)

cheers; all it is, i'm (as usual) wondering why i bother; at least in the more adult forums (for the most part) people co-exist and more importantly tend to post more than two syllables in posts and have stuff to offer in info and help. All the good work us mods and you good posters do seems to go to pot when i read the endless crap that the bored kids 'post' in sooo many pages of pointless twaddle. it's not that us mods can't keep up with it, it's that there's just no point to most of that stuff. i think we need another Admin-sanctioned banning spree to cleanup some of the crap

could you create a petition for members to sign to help win such a banning spree? i'd sign...and create accounts to sign with, too! :p

would it be possible to drop the rank, or keep it, but have some thing like a karma system where you give them points toward if they are helpful or useless? I seen it on other forums, looked cool.

the problems with that include immature posters that would destroy good ranks and promote undeserving karma, clog the servers a bit more, and add a new level of ruthlessness to the forums, among other things. i think everything should be based on reputation, alone.

Yeah I do agree people who do post in the video game console area do hit addict level fast but what can you really do right? And dont forget you posted in the "need a sig look no further" thread as well. But yeah I guess your right you didint post as many times as I thought you did.

Ahhhh I would stil be at newbie status then. And that wouldent be cool. Maybe every 3 times you post in the video game console forums it is only worth 1. So every three post turn out to be 1 full one in any other section. Also I do see a lot of pointless post in the video game console forums and I agree with you and I my self may sometimes do that to but I dont really notice because I am only trying to have a conversation with them.

That would be an awseome Idea I would join in thats cool.

I dont think so but it would be a cool idea. But why would they get their rank droped in the first place? I nkow for useless edvice but that would be hard to keep track off.

Oh yeah and I dont post in the video game consoles just to get my rank up because once I reach the "afterdawn addict" status I will still post their because I enjoy doing so thats all.

    - actually it's real easy to track, if more people understood that we mods and the regulars, do know what goes on around the site, maybe we'd have less crap posting (of course that won't happen because the majority of the little tikes act like they're in a school playground).

Just because a mod doesn't post in a thread doesn't mean the little tikes are necessarily running amok. For example I lurk on one hell of a lot of posts (15159 at the moment) and don't always 'pounce' right away. My point is that we most certainly know who the worst idiots are (not that we need to try very hard, crap posting on a highly popular and very public site is like a huge police siren/700foot high sign pointing down at the posts)

Who are you referring to, exactly, creaky?
As for mods being reglars and the fact that they know what's going on, is obvious. In fact, I read this on another forum site - "The Mods and Admins are the 'Gods' of this site. Mess with them and...." (you can guess the rest of it)

i wasn't referring to anyone in particular, just making the point that whoever the idiots are, we (and the regular posters) know who they are, some of them we get rid of, some of them come back, but of course there's a never-ending influx of rude lazy pointless kids (and spammers though i think everybody hates spammers)

another case in point - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/412518/2490892 (but as long as that poster's posts improve it's not a problem)

and another example of utter pointlessness - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/412558

and another example - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/406723 however in that thread the guys managed to wean the original poster off one of the worst cases of text speak i've ever seen

it's 07:26 and already i'm wondering why i bother trying to keep this place clean :p

I see your point now, creaky. I mean, one of those threads was actually for saying goodnight...GOODNIGHT!!??!
Like saying 'Howz your dog?' in a parlimentary session...

EDIT: Just noticed the end of that.."Closed because of stupidity"
    Made me giggle

Rly Rav? Lol, I was too pissed off that I'm using Tor to get on Ad (long story), that I couldn't be bothered to even Google it :p

Anyway, back on topic (well kinda), I rarely go in the console forums; and when I do I, along with everyone else it seems, get bogged down and trampled upon by the rampaging fanboys, flamers, idiots, children etc, the list goes on.

I disagree that all console posts shouldn't go towards the post count, because for all of the (the few) legit. posters in there, that "specialise" (if you will) in that area, get tarred with everyone else's brush...

    GRRRRR :)

~LoL~, yep, honest they are :)

And you have a valid point, the best example I can think of personally is Janrocks, she was a great member who used to post in the game forums (aswell as the linux & windows forums).

She stood here ground wherever she posted with a firm knowledge of each of those fields, she left aD because she was sick of being flamed by the 'tards in the game forums & sacked it, IMO she and a few others where the only REAL posters in those forums, the rest of the kiddie-winks I see posting in there these days talk cr@p & flame, grrr!!!!

    No-one can thruthfully say otherwise....

Anywhoo, I suppose the console forums are forums none the less, the qaulity of them HAS improved, due to tighter & stricter moderation, though I still see too much chit-chat, they are valid in some nature a percentage of the time, don't burn me for saying this but cutting off status upgrades for posts in there may cause more problems than its worth in them boards, though I personally think its a feasible solution.

What I suggest is just police them harder, encourage the use of the "report offensive post" button, rather than participating in the flame war's & lay down the rules harder, it'll stop...it worked that month when dRD announced a "Ban now, ask questions later" policy, didn't it??

Yeah Rav, I think it should be "Ban now ask questions later month", every month!

    But that's just what I think ;-)
