    Hello all.

My friend has a project coming up in school where he wants to be able to use scenes from movies in his presentation. What programs would I need to cut a scene from a movie and have it saved as a divx or mpeg clip on my Macbook? I also have a WinXP system too, so if it would be easier doing it on that system (doubtful), please let me know what software I need for that system.

    Thank you

On the PC with VirtualDub, load the AVI and select the scene with the shift key and slider bar.
Mark the start and end with the flags.
    'Video' 'Direct Stream Copy'
    'File' 'Save as AVI'

VirtualDub also has an available plugin to load MPEG2 or DVD VOB files - the output is saved as AVI.
In this case Video and Audio compression should be used (else the output is huge uncompressed files).
'Video' 'Full Processing Mode' then compression codec is selected.
'Audio' 'Full Processing Mode' and compression type (usually mp3) is selected.

Don't know anything about Macs - works of the Devil.
