System became infected with Trojans...lost everything anyway... so I reformatted and I start with a clean slate. Keep in mind I have been successfully burning DVD's for about 2 months now. I use an external burner.... I use DVDFab5 to rip and the DVD Shrink to burn...with in conjunction it used my ImgBurn progam to burn after it was done doing it's thing. Here's the problem. I have DVDFab5, DVDShrink and ImgBUrn reloaded. I haven't used DVDFab5 to rip yet...so I hope it will work for me. However I am trying to get my movie files off my external hard drive using DVDShrink and ImgBurn should just kick in...right? Wrong..it wants Nero. I don't have Nero...how's about a big olfe fat "help" Now..keeping in mind I am starting on a clean slate... is there some programs you would suggest I try first, since the hard drive is fresh and clean and all that happy jazz.....
you my dear are a blessing. Thank you...I hope it works. Have great day Right now my computer is busy...and I am just about frazzled and exhausted. Between working all day and trying to fix this computer.. I had been just about technologied out. Tomorrow will be a bright new day and I neeed some shut eye... Thank you though...sounds like a perfect solution...cause someone else all ready had the same problem I thought it was strange that after having ImgBurn in conjunction with DVDShrink work for months...that it won't do it now.. but then I was wondering if there was a hidden file somewhere from some other program I had downloaded eons ago that was allowing it to work. Then with having a clean slate... not having that hidden file. Guess I am not losing my mind It's just that removing all those programs I had collected over a 5 year span...now being gone..there was just too many variables of change. Yanno.....
you can also create an image to the HDD then burn with imgburm guides http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/494836 http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/622748
I erased and downloaded that program repeatedly. Finally gave up...it kept telling me to install Nero. I realize I could use IMGBurn after Shrink was done with it..but I liked the convenience of it autoburning when it was done shrinking. Especially since my old, slow system takes hours to encode and burn anyway. So... Yeah to Afterdawn and yeah me... proud new owner of the Nero program purchased through AfterDawn. works just peachy now....*giggles*
Certainly odd that you couldn't get it to work. I'm glad you got it sorted out though. Just remember Nero8 doesn't like Dvd Shrink!
I know..it was saddening to me because I have used ImgBurn for the last few months and now I have to slightly change my process. After I deleted the program, shut my computer off and reloaded the new one... everytime I tried to do a backup it kept telling me to install Nero. So...after a few tries I finally caved and purchased/downloaded Nero8. Now... I was able to do my first movie last night and everything seemed fine until I put it in the DVD player. It refused to go to the root menu...or maybe that is just the way this particular movie is. Either that or now maybe the file is corrupt. The computer is busy encoding a different movie and going to burn it here shortly.... (old computer...slow..takes me hours) I envy those of you that can rip/encode/and burn in a few hours. It takes me at least 8 to 12 for the entire process. The Bank Job was the movie I was making a copy of. When I tried to get to the root menu it came up to something else.... sooooo... when this gets done burning the movie it just encoded, I am going to completely remove The Bank Job from my system and rerip it. See if it is not a corrupt file. Question: Is it possible for a trojan to infect and mess with an external hard drive? I was under the impression external hard drives were safe from virus spread..but now I am wondering if all the movie files I had on my external hard drive...are now corrupt. I only had about 7 movies on the hard drive. Some all ready burnt that I was too lazy to remove yet..and some not yet burnt and just waiting for me to do so. None of these are torrents....they are ones I ripped from originals. I tried the torrent thing months ago and then gave up. Felt the torrents were too much of a pain in the @ss. So.... can a hard drive become infected as well and I have only ripped/encoded and burned using the same programming - DVDFab5, the DVDShrink with ImgBurn Now I am doing the same thing except instead of ImgBurn it is Nero What problems do Nero and DVDShrink have? (that way I can recognize the problem before it becomes a problem.) and..... does anyone have any rip/encode/burn suggestion or programs that may be a tad bit easier? Sorry...this thread turned from one question into three more LOL
nero 8 will not autoburn with dvd shrink period.nero 8 doesn't support dvd shrink you will have to use nero 7 or imgburn if you want to autoburn. or use clonedvd + anydvd , more options here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/622748 I don't think its a virus problem
I know Attar linked you to something similar earlier in this thread; but look at this sticky on how to set up Shrink to autoburn with Imburn; just to make sure. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/664041
No autoburn with Nero? Hmmm... well maybe... just maybe... ImgBurn is doing it and faked out the program..even though I did buy Nero 8. I just checked to see which I had..and it says 8 in my programs. I never did delete ImgBurn because I do like the program. No big deal by me... it did autoburn. Hopefully this movie will be completely intact with no goof ball glitches. Itis only 38% done so far...so we'll see When I look at preferences it has autoburn with Nero checked.. but I didn't have Nero before and it autoburned with ImgBurn. The Icon still looks the same. Nothing makes someone feel more "worthless" than having to reformat and start all over from scratch. It is almost as if everything I did know... now has to be changed because of files that may have been on there from years passed working in the background that I did not realize were helping..are not there now and "holes" are being created. Oh well..I am sure in a month after finally figuring out what is missing..everything will be back on track. dang viruses messing up my computer.....
I would like to thank you three for replying and helping me. I do appreciate it. More than you know. Like I said...it is currently making me feel pretty low because I do not seem to be "up" with the current technology. But I had five years of stuff in the computer... various programs I had uploaded and then later removed and you know all the components never go away. So, now starting all over, I am getting glitches and it is highly annoying and frustrating. Here I thought I had what I needed to know under my belt...and I am feeling quite unsure. I will feel more confident when I finally have a successful copy. It is humbling......
OK *sigh* Another unsuccessful burn. This one was Jarhead.. did the same thing I try to go to root menu and it jumps to a part of the movie and then "loops". Repeats the same segment over and over. PLUS...and this I did not realize until this one..or didn't catch the similarity...but I am also have subtitles or not subtitles.... closed captioned..yeah..that's it.. it is as if I have the closed captioning on, on my tv..but I don't. Help........ Is this glitch happening when I am ripping or encoding or burning? Am I missing a program? WTF?? I am so lost at this point.
Ok Jnfr917...just calm down. We'll get through this. If you're having playback problems after a "successful" burn, that may mean different issues. If you could provide some sort of burn log from either Nero or Imgburn, whichever you're using, that would help us out as to pinpointing the nature of the error. My guess thus far, if you're getting successful burns and then having playback problems could be a couple of things: 1. inferior blank media: using the good stuff is always recommended. Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, or Sony. 2. Keep the burn speed between 6x and 8x. 3. Refrain from multi-tasking during the burn process. 4. If using the +R format of blank dvd's be sure to booktype to DVD-ROM if your burner supports it. I know reformatting can be a daunting task.
The successful copies were done before my computer was hit by viruses and my hard drive erased. Now that my hard drive has been erased and I am starting fresh.... I am using he same programs I had before and in that order of operation...but now it is as if something is missing, it doesn't want to run as smooth as it did before. and my playbacks/copies are inferior. Same programs, same media..the only thing that is different is a fresh clean hard drive. The Imgburn was not being recognized by the DVDShrink. So now I have Nero as a difference too. But that is the way I did it. Uploaded with DVDFab5 to my external hard drive. Then used DVDShrink to encode and it autoburned when it was done. I do beleive it was ImgBurn that worked at that... I wish I could go back a week in time and look at my programs and see exactly which ones I had... which versions... I'm not excited... I am disappointed..and getting tired. Daunting is a perfect word for how it is seeming. *grumble* When DVDShrink was done...it said it was a successful back up...but when I play it in the DVD player.... it is stuck in a loop....
OK...this is what I have done deleted ImgBurn and Deleted DVDShrink. went to the aforementioned thread **DVDFab Decrypt, FixVTS, Shrink, ImgBurn Guide** reloaded ImgBurn, DvdShrink (tried to do the drag/drop though I do beleive I am unsuccessful) when I go into preferences it still has a box to check that says burn with Nero (which I had unchecked and still remains unchecked). I also downloaded FixVTS and went through the guide (which is quite splendid by the way and looked like a TON of work). I have a movie I am VERY familiar with in my drive as we speak being DVDFabbed. This will take 4 hours at least. While that is going I was going through the rest of the guide and I see where in DVDShrink...in the prefererences, for target DVD size. I originally had DVD-5 checked (4.7G) and have since switched it to custom (as per guide). Would that have created any problems? What is Fix VTS for? I mean..I am going to try it anyway...but what is it's purpose? Hopefully when I get to DVDShrink part...when I click on back up..it will let me select isoimg file and burn with in=mg burn...but before it would not. I had only two choices...hard disk/ or it just said Iso Img file. I'll keep you updated on the "what's next for Jennifer" saga LOL Hey....do you do housecalls?? (just kidding)
When you deleted imgburn and dvd shrink, did you remove all the parts of them with a program like ccleaner? Sometimes it might help to do a clean reinstall.
Now that you have purcheased Nero 8 and it doesn't work with Shrink for auto burn, you probably also bought Nero Recode with Nero 8. It was written by the same chap who wrote Shrink. You'll still have to use Fab to rip the files to HDD. Open them in Recode and it's a one click start to finish disc. Since you also have DVDFab you can use it to rip, shrink and burn everything. JM2C
I assume your talkng about the Gold or Premium to burn with.... I thought about that..but was going to use my current tried and true method before reformat..but now that it seems to be not working like before.. I am open to suggestions and will try it since I have a few more days of trial period. At this point....can't hurt. Right? I'm just not enjoying adapting to changing the way I had done it before reformat. I'm old... (ok 33 is not old) but I was set in my ways on how to do it and it was successful for me for a while..until reformat. Now it is not working the way it used to and I am a smidgeon disappointed that I need to relearn a new way in order to succeed. You know...kind of like a chef having to alter their tried and true recipes because they are being told to cut out trans fats.....it foreign to the way they did things.. and this is foreign to me and I'm not adapting well or wrapping my head around it very easily. It is almost as if I am missing something that worked in the background, that I did not realize was helping, and now it is gone. It's trial and error........
Nope...didn't work. I pop the DVD in the player it starts up, I hit DVD Menu on the remote.... Instead of going to menu...it goes to a scene and replays that scene in a loop. I give up. (for now)
Have you tried viewing the movies on your computer following the ripping or even the encoding process to ensure that all is well prior to burning. At least that would narrow it down to the fact that it is indeed the burning giving you problems. Maybe you could also try saving one to your internal HDD and process from there to make sure your external is not giving you fits.
