    Hey now,

I've just joined the forum after spending a day or two looking around. I like what I see and hope to hang about.

Believe it or not I'm a newbie who has used the search engine !
So I understand that alot of boxes are down, mines too. I was reading through here and I appreciate all the advice I've read through this thread and I'll wait without fuss for the fix.

Ok, so can I ask advice and its not about the fix or to moan my box is down, I know your probably tired of that !

I thought I could try a factory reset and reinstall V.4 software, whle I await the new fix but...

I realised my Rs232 cable wouldn't fit into my laptop, so I went out and bought this cable http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=29968

As posted on page 18 of here by gman496 (cheers mate)

Anywhos the software that came with it is showing up as failed everytime I run the test programe , however Windows XP claims that the cable is working properly.

I've ran through a million and one times using the helpfull info posted on here but none of that works, anyone on here bought the same cable from Maplin and able to help me out ?

Afterall I'm going to need it to work when the new software is available ;-)

    Much appreicated folks.

    Hi,

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by running the "Test Software"?

If the adapter is installed correctly it should look something like this in the Windows "Device Manager":

Note: You do need to restart your PC after driver installation in order for it to be picked up correctly. The same applies when you change the port (COM) number.

Make sure the COM number reflected in the Windows "Device Manager" is set to the same in the software you use to communicate with the box.

How to set the port number in Windows:

Do the following for XP or Vista.

    START
Right Click "MY COMPUTER" (Note: Right click Computer in Vista)
    Choose "MANAGE"
In the resulting window, click on "DEVICE MANAGER"
In the right hand pane, click on the little plus sign beside "PORTS" in the right hand pane.
Right click on the USB Adapter (Should be something like “USB Serial Port COM # or "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm. Port (COM#) or “Communications Port” (COM #) )
    Choose "Properties"
    Click on "PORT SETTINGS" TAB
    Click on "ADVANCED"
Then you will see the COM Port Number Box. You should be able to change it there using the drop down box.
Try to set it to COM2 or whatever port your software will allow you to use to communicate with the box.
Restart Windows (If necessary but normally not required)

Set your software to COM2 & try to connect.

If that fails try another port number.

If there is an issue with the port in the Windows "Device Manager" you can get the correct drivers HERE:
