    Don't mind anyone butting in
BUT if you read his posts correctly you should know that he has a SV1 which has been flashed with SV2 or SV3 firmware.

He also has a USB to Serial lead.

His problem is quite simple to sort out.

    CONFIGURE THE PORTS CORRECTLY!

PC problem not box! Ive flashed my SV1 with both firmwares and recovered from it.I even flashed it with SV4 So not a box problem a PC one.

Ned to know what OS is on the laptop now.

matty your problem has to be with your PC.
As it's a PC problem please answer the following.

Which OS are you using (XP or Vista)?

Have you checked in hardware the port number that your USB-Serial cable is using?

In XP right click on My Computer and click on hardware tab.

You do not have a box problem but a PC one.

PIP.... IF you read the posts properly YOU might see that he mentioned THREE different boxes:

And this is what I was trying to establish, so please tell me were I didnt read the post correctly!!!

Furthermore I did establish that he has indeed a USB to serial lead and that obviously this way isnt working for him, that is why I advised him to try the Straight NULL MODEM Product Number L71BT
and see if this would work on a PC as opposed to the Laptop as this will simplify the task for him!!

    you also said
well if its that simple why hasnt he been successful following your advice??

Perhaps he can't follow instructions on how to configure Port settings.

May sound a silly question but do you have a live feed from VM?

Also you haven't said which box.

TVMAD try either SLY 2 not sly spots2 or discovery Turbo, or sly movies Indie, there is a stronger signal on these and should click in!!
