Think we can safely say that matty will try over the weekend, and everyone now has the message. And no doubt it may be a PC related, if the USB Adaptor is eliminated, then it obviously is (After all this is how his mate flashed the box in the first place). But he also has got himself a Bad Flash situation as a result, so there it is, and yes of course pip, sometimes you will just get away with a simple reflash, (As I Suggested) but not always mate, other's do have problems, as in this case, but I honestly can't see the point in posting 6 consecutive posts when one would have done, after all matty did thank you and say before leaving that he would try Des's suggestion over the weekend.

My posts were in answer to what DesB had said who gave incorrect advice based on the previous posts.

I have repeated matty's problem on a SV1 I have here and sorted it.

I will say it again "it is not a box problem sort out your port settings on your PC"

Pip , I dont know who you are trying to p*ss OFF but I did not give wrong advice so please refrain from saying I did!!

you are saying you have sorted the problem... you have sorted nothing!!!
If you want to partake in the forum, well good luck... but dont come on here and tell Malci (AD Adict) or myself a senior member we are giving out the wrong advice... anything we suggest has been tried and tested and ....we will stand over it!!

Now I am getting a little P***** with this, if you have sorted it well and good, but please, don't go rattling people, I have stated WHAT you have stated for god's sake. Now lets get back on track here, and stop trying to score points, it's not nice, and certainly not the way we work, and if possible edit your posts especially if yours is the last one, that is forum policy.

    malci and DesB

I'm not trying to p**s anyone off I come on here just to help if I can.

As regards mattys problem I replicated it here with a SV1 and sorted it.His problem is most definately his port settings,

To be quite truthful I don't care about "forum addicts" or "senior members" I just care about users who have problems and if I can help them I will. And I will continue to do so.

Desb pointed out that it would be a good idea to get to a PC with a 9 pin serial socket therefore canceling out driver incompatibility / and port setting problems which IS good advice especially after seeing how long it has taken for him to be up and running. Yes maybe it is was port configuration problems and as you said previously he may be struggling following the steps on how to set this up, at this stage when advising people this would be the only suggestion possible besides standing over someones shoulder showing them on a one to one basis.

Everyone's help is welcome in here whether newbie-Junior-member-senior or addict, but try to remember that those that have been in here day in day out have had the experience of these problems over and over again and learn to come up with the easiest/best solution which has been tried and test so its not wise to tell them they are giving out the wrong advice.

As said it's nice to have others helping such as you and Desb did compliment you on your patience so please try to be a bit more respectful with your replies rather than trying to point score then we can all get along nicely :)

@pippincp - let's do like most here and play nice and treat ALL members here with respect - whether or not they have a problem or what their status.
The forum is here to help one another - not to get into the I'm right - you're wrong bit.
Isn't the new political correct word or 'in' word - civility..

Just because I'm not listed as a "senior member" or "forum addict" does not mean I'm not here daily.

Now I know why fergusb doesn't bother any more

    Too each their own.

My philosophy which I try and follow - net, real world , no diff - treat others as you want to be treated.
I play no attention to title here btw.

    Edit:
And now let's put this to rest and continue with the topic of the thread.

So can we now look at matty's problem without bickering?

    He has a SV1

His friend flashed it with either SV2 or SV3 firmware.

I have done the same with a SV1 I have and recovered the box.

He states he has a USB to SERIAL adapter and that he is using COMM port1

Then he says he's configured the port to COMM Port2 I doubt it as it will usually default to COMM port3

His posts tell us all this and he was at work when he first posted, but at home on his laptop later.

DesB stated this "its a straight NULL MODEM cable and forget about the Com POrts and usb cables etc
Try this and at least we can eliminate this if it doesnt sort the box for you!!!"

This is why I said DesB had pointed him in the wrong direction. The COMM ports DO matter!

We will see what happens over the next few days.

As posted if you cant configure your USB port settings apart from standing over your shoulder take away the USB adapter and use the Null modem cable straight through to a PC if you can get to one.

    Null modem cable as below,

At the back of the PC plug it into this,

Best way to go from here as Desb and Malci said otherwise continue with the configuration of your coms/ports via USB adapter which can be a pain in the anus :)

Otherwise good luck with the USB adapter as pip said you may be able to run it off that.
