Sounds like a good idea - what part of Phoenix are you in Distorded? I'm up by 43rd Ave and Peoria and geestar's at 37th Ave and Camelback - that makes four ADers around here :)

Me and Pop are going back to Alamo tomorrow! Hope we have another good haul. We've got a bunch of different tubes (Little Hustler brand - love that name) grubs and feathered jigs so we'll see what the Alamo crappie prefer :)

I found out Wal Mart has waxworms but I couldn't get there so they'll have to wait till next time. If we do good this weekend we may do it again in a week or two with waxworms.

I'm wearing my coonskin hat and sharpened my Bowie knife to get me in the mood for The Alamo :p

    That saugeye sounds delicious!!!

I'm southeast of ya at 40th st. and camelback. Do you fish any of the lakes around town or up on the rim? I'm going out to the new Cabelas on Sat. with the masses to check things out. They say that it is the size of three football fields. A guy I work with has been to the original and he said it is the size of a city block, can anyone confirm this?

Ok you're not that far away. I can't wait to check out Cabela's. Did you go Saturday? How was it?

Me and Pop had a good trip Friday night. We hauled in around 45 keeper crappie, one bass and a nice channel cat - no monsters this time though. I did hook something big, whatever it was it pulled my rod tip stright under the boat and snapped my line right away. It was either a big cat or a stinkin' carp.

We were treated to one of the most stunning lightning shows either of us has ever seen. About 30 minutes after we got to our spot on the lake a storm rolled in and we had to book it for a small cove to sit it out. It blew and rained like hell for about an hour and boy oh boy was that lighting everywhere. Most of it was right above us and we could feel the consussion of the thunder - what a treat!

45 crappie? Good job neph. That's 45 more fish than I have gotten in the last 2 weeks.

I'll bet it was pretty [bold]expensive![/bold] LOL. I could spend some major bucks on there if I allowed myself. My nearest one is dundee michigan,1 hr 45 mins away. I'm a member of the cabela's club,so I get extra discounts, vouchers for special days-along with signing up new members on those special days.I used to get some really good specials, but not anymore. You'll have to check out their bargain cave.

    You're a braver man than I neph!

I see lighning,I head for the nearest ramp/find a shelter house that's far away from trees.

I'm like that guy on The Great outdoors, remember him? He's the guy that was stuck by lighning about a dozen or so times,so every time he sees lightning-he runs like hell! LOL

Lol, I've always loved lightning, it's such an awesome display of pure energy. I can certainly understand why those folks thousands of years ago figured it was the gods upset about something!

I remember that guy on Great Outdoors - I imagine being struck might curb my enthusiasm for being close to it :D

Slim pickins for you eh? Maybe you finally caught them all!

I forgot to mention the entire night we could see a 24" channel cat slowly swimming around the little cove about a foot under the surface - talk about torture being able to see that big 'ol cat all night and not get him!!! Might have to try fishing with a .22 :p

I can't imagine how much that new Cabelas cost - three football fields worth of floor space according to the newspaper article. They built it within walking distance of the new Cardinals Stadium that's been on TV quite a bit.

I didn't make it but a friend did and said there were at least 3000 people moving like salmon upstream. He said you couldn't even stand and look without being pushed around. I hope to make it out next weekend.

Maybe it'll only be 1,500 people next weekend :p

Kinda reminds me of that fiasco when they opened that new Ikea.

If you make it next weekend and want to meet up there let me know :)

The Dundee cabelas used to get packed during the member drive weekends. People would be fighting over shopping carts, even though they didn't have room to push them around once they got inside, LOL.

After 4-5 yrs ago, they extended those drives to include 2 consecutive weekends-less traffic, and dad & I would go up very early on a friday am.

One note: These cabelas club member drives meant you got a visa card and earn points through purchases. You should see all the amish folk up there getting their $30-$50 worth of free vouchers. They haul them in by charter bus's. They not allowed to own cars, have elec, telephone, indoor plumbing,etc-but they are allowed to have credit cards? Go figure!

I used to get $50 in points just to sign in during those specials. Now they're down to $30 vouchers, and have to use them during that drive.Early december and april were their main drives.

I've been up around mississauaga. I've seen the signs for it when heading up to Buckhorn Lake up north of peterborough.I also went to Rice lake a couple times. Very nice lakes and quality fishing.

That looks like a typical ontario crappie. Notice how much of a gold look along with the black spots.Caught quite a few up there, until 9-11,our last year up in canada.

The crappie down here in the states are white + black.

Last time up in Ontario,it was the week of 911.Myself,my dad,and his buddy bob were up there bluegill fishing in lower buckhorn. That morning,we heard someone on the bank blaring the radio up. I turned my radio on and heard the news of the first tower coming down. We sped back to the cabin, and watched the 2nd tower collapse on the tv. Not a very pleasant vacation. Looking at the Toronto newspaper every day after that, they'd show pics of people trying to cross the border. I'm glad we waited about 4 days later to cross the border at windsor. Got there at 3 am,and took a half hour to be searched by the border patrol,so not too shabby. Driving through detroit at 3:30 am also not very pleasant, LOL

Dad and bob are getting up there in age. It's about a 10/ 11 hr trip up there from our area. That gold looking crappie did bring some good memories. Crystal clear water/deep/ and lots of weedbeds.Something that my local lakes lack.

1 thing I most miss,is picking up the duty free Molson triple XXX beer. That's some of the finest beer that I have drank. I miss that high octane canadian beer.

    How's this year's(2007) fishing going?

I didn't know whether to start another one for 2007 or keep the old one alive.

    Anywho:

Not too good here in West Central Oh. They were killing them a week and a half ago, coldfronts came through and that's all she wrote. The fish are still screwed up.

I took the oldman out yesterday and he got a 15.5" saugeye. I managed a 17" channelcat.Dad thought he had a big-un hooked until he saw the white Wal-Mart plastic bag come up to the surface, LOL. We did throw back 6 small ones.

    I went solo this morning because of yesterdays poor results. I did manage 2 keeper saugeye,both were 19". Also got 3 dinks,a 10" largemouth,11" crappie,and a 19" flathead catfish-all Trolling.

Limited out this morning.Still only aloud 6 per day,but no size limit.Total in the boat this year 10

I couldn't find anyone else to go with me. This is one of the very few times that I didn't get a single snag!! Stump infested, avg of 5-6' of water and not a single snag.

Nothing over 18",but a nice batch of fish to fry up!!!

The future looks very good. The ODNR- Ohio Division of Natural Resources -posted that my lake will be stocked with 2.2 million saugeye fingerlings very soon. The most I've ever seen in a single stocking is 800,000. Imagine that, out of around 10 million fingerlings of saugeye and walleye that will be stocked by the state,my lake is getting well over 20% of them!!! YEEHAA!

They won't be catchable size until another 3 yrs.

Neph: I got 2 more crappie trolling.

I gotta teach my dad how to catch them tomorrow morning,LOL. I'm also going to get kenzie an infant life vest and try some saugeye trolling in the evenings.

1 week of work, and then 2 weeks of vacation.
