In my torrents program it says the ports aren't forwarded how can I forward them when it's going directly to the internet service provider? Is there any good routers in the 50$ range I also want up set up a home network, any good guide becuse the geek squad charges 150$ for a setup?

I recently bought the DLink Xtreme Wireless Router(DIR-655). I have it downstairs and my Laptop, Wii and PS3 is upstairs, and I get a fast connection. But with the 360 the wireless adapter is horrible as it only goes up to g/b I think. Best thing is to get an ethernet cable. I got a 100-150ft one to hook up to my 360, just had to run it through the walls. If you don't want to do that, i the Xtreme works great and is on sale at Best Buy for $100 (ends tomorrow though) and you can also port-forward and to tons of things with it.

dude 150 bucks is a major rip off to set up a router. you can get a high end router for that. just buy something then come on the boards and we'll do it for free.

general guide to hooking up a router.

don't pop in that damn cd the router comes with. a lot of the times all it has on it is software to "manage" your network and a step by step guide on plugging the router in. all you need to know is ports 1 through 4 go to pc's and the internet port off to the side goes to your modem. then All the cd does after that is copy your computers MAC address and sending it to the router so the router uses that to spoof your isp into thinking the router is your pc. ISP's use MAC's to make sure your neighbor isn't stealing your internet connection.

Sometimes a way around is to unplug the ISP's modem for 30 sec. plug in your router to the ethernet then plug the power back into the ISP modem. Alternately you can call your ISP and have them reset your connection. (if they tell you to unplug the router, say you did but don't they want to sync your pc's MAC when they should be syncing your routers MAC.)

A third way to set up your router is by manually inputing your pc's mac. most routers have an option to do this. to find out your pc's MAC go to start>run: type in CMD hit enter then type in ipconfig /all into the comand prompt and your MAC will be the physical address under your ethernet adapter. I don't get how this works but it does. What I don't get is how can two devices have the same MAC on one network? anyone care to school me?

if you are having connectivity issues and you make sure all wires are connected go into the command prompt again and type in ipconfig /renew
    this will reset your connection.

really geek squad is charging you 150 bucks for something that is very very simple to do.

My DIR-655 works perfectly fine, I torrent with it as well as game (some Live but not much).

I did have a problem with the DNS server not working on the 360, both with my DIR-655 and the DI-624.

I fixed the forwarding problems by assigning my XBox a Static IP. If you want to use your DI-624 still here is the "Port Forward" guide to getting Live's ports forwarded.

    http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DI-624/Xbox_Live_360.htm

As for the DNS problem, I manually switched by 360's DNS to OpenDNS and it worked like a charm. Here is a guide on how to get your 360 on both a Static IP (given everytime by the router) as well as changing the DNS:

    http://portforward.com/networking/staticip-xbox360.htm

If you don't want to read the guide for the 360 here is basically what it says:

    1. Go to the "System" blade.
    2. Select "Network Settings" and push "A".
    3. Select "Edit Settings" and push "A".
    4. Select "IP Settings" and push "A".
    5. Select "Manual" and push "A".
    6. Select "IP Address" and push "A". This will popup a keypad from which you enter the static IP you assigned the XBox in the router.

    7. Repeat for "Subnet mask", setting it as "255.255.255.0" and the "Gateway" as 192.168.0.1 (or whatever IP you type into your browser to access your router.)

    8. From here you can choose if you want to test your connection or not. Personally I would not test it and go assign the "DNS" to "OpenDNS".

To do this go back to the "Network Settings" tab and press "A".

Then select "DNS Settings" and press "A".

For the primary DNS server put the following:
    208.67.222.222

    For the secondary DNS put:

    208.67.220.220

Now test your connection and it should work. If not then recheck your IP is the same as the static IP you put in the router.

Sorry for the lengthy post, hopefully it was of some help.
