    aabbccdd,

    Looking back I would have gone with an AMD dual core. My upgrade turned into a real cluster f**k. I bought a set of 1 gb each corsair xms dual channel memory (2 gb total) just to find out my mobo didn't support dual channel memory. I had also already ordered this intel socket 478 (which is what my old mobo was for) 3.4 ghz cpu to go with the upgrade. So long story short, ordered a new asus mobo that supported dual channel memory. I would have got the memory either way but known I was going to need a mobo I would have gone AMD dual core cpu and mobo to fit. On top of all that, the cpu I got was defective and I had to RMA it. RMA'ed the mobo too cause I wasn't sure which was defective. Just got everything back this week.

    Gonna be a while untill I upgrade again. Spent last 2 days trying to get proggy's I'd downloaded back up n runnin after reformat. Like anydvd (says my license key is expired). Still haven't got any of my intervideo software back up. Waiting on replys to my emails.

    oh great fun reformatting huh lol.

    so you went with the 939 socket mobo right? and in 2007 thats going to change again lol.

    yeah i got the CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 433(PC 3500) memorey kickass stuff man!!! really makes a difference i can burn "on the fly" with nero 2 dvds at a time at 8x with no buffer drop off at all, amazing stuff

    I keep a (rather large)folder on my second hd called "setup_files" just for .exe's and installations as well as some necessary codecs and what not just to ease the transition for the upcoming quad-core wars.

    btw good luck with the new build we'll see you when you go to bumping up that cpu frequency you should get some decent clocks with the new rig ;)

    @ aabbccdd man I think they have adjusted the work week this is supposed to be our slow season and we haven't gotten away with a 5-day work week,yet much less 8 hour day's thank god I don't have to be awake for my encoding:)

    Another encode of a 7.56 gb folder using rb/cce 3.4 ghz cpu vs 2.8 ghz cpu resulted in a time decrease of 41 min. 3.4 took 121 min and the 2.8 took 162 min. I had saved the rebuilder text documents from the encodes done with the 2.8 ghz cpu so I could compare the times with the 3.4 ghz cpu. I'm qiut happy with the results.

    I also tried out that multiple encoder processes...... I could only use HC with that and it added more time (about an hour) to the whole process! So I went back to what was good for me..... CCE!!!

    I'm also in the market for a new CPU and was wondering whether Dual Core Pentium D or Athlon would better for RB & CCE and allow me to multitask while encoding. There are lots of posts of personal logs but I'm unclear which processor people would recommend.

    aaddccdd....... you know my rig....... yes it's HT..... but it's running at 3.73GHZ with 1086FSB! 2G of DDR2 RAM. I have 260G hard drive RAID 0, with 2 other external drives 300G & 100G with 2 burners..... one external BenQ 1655, and a DVDRom and Philips 8631 burner. my machine is lean and mean and does DVD-RB in great times.... pretty fast. But, yea...... my next machine will be a Dual Core. who knows...... the next one might even be better than Dual Core because I don't think I'll need a machine for a longgggggggggggggg time! This computer is the best one that I ever had and does everything I need it to do and fast........ and I know soooooooo many other people still running under Windows 95 and can't do crap! LOL

    @vjbob

    I'm pretty sure that the Toledo core 939 AMD processors benchmark higher than the dual core Pentium D processors, but from what I hear the new AMD AM2 Dual cores are no match for the Pentium Core2 Duo processors. The new Pentiums seem to be king at the moment.

    thanks. I noticed that when building my computer online the 2 processors were the same price. I guess I'll stick with Pentium.

    ebega is right. The AMD dual core cpu's will outperform the pentium D dual core cpu's.

    if was going to buy a computer and make it online what company should I buy from? I've been buying Dell for a long time but was looking at HP. Was even thinking Sony if its worth the extra money.

    that would be the best choice since I could get all premium parts, but I don't know how to do it myself. Does CompUSA help people build their own computers. Sadly I only know enough about computers to build one online like Dell but not enough to do it myself. Just not familiar enough with all the parts and hardware. What should I do?

    @VJbob

    do you have any small local computer repair shops or anything by your house or in your area? if you do they might be able to build one for you with what you want in it.

    Thanks. I'll definitely post in the official PC builder thread when I start and have the money and resources to do the computer. Thanks for the help.
