This is a good idea. I second the motion!!! How would that be done here at AD??? Also, my crystal ball says that over the next year we'll be seeing a lot more people trying the Remake/RB-CCE route. The only thing that might get in the way of this would be dl media at $3.00 or less a disc (my own estimation)).

@ Sophocles. (As far as my son's taste devolving any further, should I expect a linear or exponential digression??? I may have nightmares tonight thinking about either one.)

@Big-O. WinDVD 6 looks real nice. Not very intuitive, though. IV said they were going to send a manual with the download, but didn't. I've got to find a way to go to school on this one. That's OK though, just one more thing to juggle into the mix!!!

@64026402. I like the lamp. I wish I had found it first.

    Doc

We'll have to start a new thread to deliver our our recipes for success to the other memebers of the forum.

Sophocles ... what I was trying to get at is (1) what DVD-R forum group - advanced or newbie - would host the thread, and (2) and would/could the thread be titled in such a way ... along with instructions included on the initial post ... that the thread is for posting fixes, and not for troubleshooting problems?

Another thought is that this initial thread can always be changed by the initiator, and a running list of fixes could be added one by one. It would go something like this:

"Repository of Problems and Fixes for ....."

1st post: The purpose of this thread is to list fixes for the various problesm encountered when using...
    _____
    List of Problems and Fixes:
    1. #0003/#0004 buffer overflow errors
    2. Nero error messages
    3. etc.

    OR,
another approach would be to just list the threads (links) to the various problems with the date discussed within the thread.

If the first approach is used, it would require a "moderator" of the thread ... someone who knew they were going to be around for awhile.

Any thoughts if any of these approaches would work? And, should we start another thread just to discuss this?

It sounds to me as though such a thread aimed at trouble shooting DVD-RB/CCE difficulties would be of tremendous value to a newbie. We should review the available threads to insure that we aren’t creating a thread that is already available. In regards to trouble shooting DVD-RB/CCE I don’t think that there is one at this time. I wouldn’t include Nero into such a thread because it could muddy the waters and there are plenty of other threads that are Nero focused

The outline of the first post could include links to other threads that will redirect traffic to them so that the trouble shooting threads stay narrowly focused. It would be easier for individuals such as Vurbal and jdobbs to drop in a clear up and issues with DVD-RB if they don’t have to wade through unrelated information.

In addition to new Shrink we have a new Rebuilder.56 and Remake 2.3.4 out.

    Wow, great news! :)

I'll give Rebuilder another try when I'm back from abroad. ;)

    Too much new stuff...

I haven't used DVDRemake at all, there really aren't that many instances with angles, etc.
I don't think I need to do Daredevil...Your reviews of the movie are enough for me.

My Rebuilder/CCE is working so well, I'm afraid to make any changes at all. Does the update of Rebuilder add any features? I am mostly interested in just making a backup of the movie. I couldn't care less about comments, alternate endings and other "extra's". That is the only drawback I see with Rebuilder/CCE.

I know there is DVD2DVDR/CCE out there for this but I am just too happy with what I have and too lazy anyway.

I have used the new SHRINK but haven't yet had a chance to watch the copy. Exciting.

Sorry about the too much stuff, I sometimes feel that way too. Sometimes I'm not sure why we keep pushing at the outer edge of the envelope, but we do and we teach each other what we've learned along the way.

I've used DVD2DVD-R which is a movie only backup system and I'd like that option with DVD-RB. It worked just fine but DVD-RB is an all around better solution and easier to use.

Agreed there aren't many multi angled/interleaved movies to really make it a concern for some but there are extras that many of us find annoying.

I dislike FBI splash screens and unwanted movie trailers, and even though one can skip through them they also make the file larger which means more compression. Most importantly however is curiosity and as long as there's that I'll keep pushing forward.

Hi, Sophocles. Thanks for the summation. I agree. If I was in any way a logical guy, I would be checking the stock market or paying my bills instead of doing this. We better have some fun.

Maybe, that's what I call fun sometimes, but most of the time I'm just curious. Another curiosity is plagued by the fact that I can't afford the hardware that it would take to continuously keep my system up to date. So I stretch myself between the two as a personal self-imposed compromise. Just keep dropping by when you want to visit or hang for a while you're always welcome.

I don't do the stock market either, I prefer realestate.

    Hello,

I have a question and I have not seen an answer to this one.

After reading all the comparitive tests and results, I wish to understand the following, when you mention that IC8 produces better results then let's say Nero or Shrink or others. Is this the transcoding only or also the burning.

I will make my question more precise. If you use decrypter to HD and then DVD Remake Pro (saving once again to HD)and then IC8 to save to HD. Would the quality be the same if you used another engine to burn the files onto the DVD disk. I came across a guide that indicated to use IC8 to transcode and save to HD and then use decrypter to burn. So I was wondering, if one used Nero, Shrink, decrypter or any other burning software on the saved files once processed in IC8 would the results be the same as using the IC8 burning engine or do the comparative tests you performed on IC8 become invalid if you use another burning engine.

The burning engine shouldn't change the video quality only the transcoder will affect that.
