I recently noticed that Nero 6 is being advertised as the only software that supports DVD DL drives. Does any one know if DVDXCOPY Platinum supports dual layer drives as well? Has anyone actually tested this and made an exact duplicate? I know the plug was pulled on 321 about the same time DL drives were coming out. I'm new to this but I always thought that Windows apps were hardware independent. In other words the driver layer deals with the interpreting. I'd like to backup my Lord Of the Rings box sets to keep the origional DVDs and cases pristine but at a rate of 2 to 1 that would mean 8 DVDs for each movie! Hardly seems worth it, since I switched from VHS to DVD to reduce clutter.

    Thanks,

    Thanks,

Are there any apps with DeCSS that do?

Sorry for all the newbie questions, it just saved me $99 CDN. I'll return the unopened DVDXCOPY.

Yea lot's of programs have added dual layer burning support.

    My three favorites:
    1) AnyDVD w/ CloneDVD2 (if bought together $65)
    http://www.slysoft.com/en/purchase.html

    or

    2) DVD Decrypter (free)
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_decrypter.cfm
    or

    3) DVD Shrink (free)
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm

Nero 6 has also added support for dual layer burning, and has an excellent program called Recode 2. But doesn't do CSS Encrypted movies, but you can use AnyDVD with Recode or DVD43(don't recommend though) w/ Recode. Anyhow Nero is a very versitle program, cost around $49

Your still talking about dual layer burning, right?

Because both DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink will do it.

DVD Decrypter use ISO mode to both read and write. With DVD Shrink, use no compression and create and ISO file and burn with Decrypter.

I've had no problems when using Shrink and Decrypter. And I installed SP2.
