you might be right in that.I' think i'll give it 3 months and see what they are then and if the media is improved probably pick a burner up.How do they go if you run a lightscribe and another burner together.I have an lg as well

I like the roxio audio player only. The lacie came with roxio 7 but the lightscribe software is called sure labeler or something like that geared specifically for lightscribing. Not sure if other label methods will work with lightscribe burners.

It has the capability of scribing in color which i was planning on trying an actual dvd label like crash tonite. The colors are pretty brilliant I printed a basic pic on a cdr to see. Now for a dvd cover I'm dreading the time as a black etch takes about 30 mins with alot of details.

So far any color of the picture. Green, yellow, red, black, brown, grey the more obscure the color the longer it takes. The lightscribe will take some time to adjust for colors outside of the normal spectrum but so far has been able to produce whatever I throw at it.

Here in the UK, Verb are selling DVDs at £0.60 and CDs at £0.55
HP are about 20p more, although it's the same disc? Both made by Verbatim?

When I need to upgrade my burner I may go down the lightscribe road, prices' are dropping all the time.
Untill then, I've decided to buy a R300m and do some 'pretty' discs' for the grandkids.

    BTW nice one Pete. :)

think petes scared him off, pity he had such flare on his side for his thread.

Unsure of the verbs gringle, how do the prices compare to the normal dvd/cdr discs

    Gringle Guest

I usually buy Ritek around the £0.20 mark Go5 CDs about £0.09
Verbs tend to be about 50% more.

Lite on have brought out a lightscribe burner

Lite-on SHW-16H5S-02C lightscribe DL DVD +/-R/RW beige and black bezels Retail
    Ex. VAT Inc. VAT
    £34.28 £40.28

So hopefully the media prices will follow suite?

edit LOL I've just noticed the Rambox add above this post :)

It will without doubt; the problem is, us end users, are always playing 'catch up' the moment we buy something, it's out of date. :)

    @andmerr
I have an LG lightscribe burner, and i love it. Burnt ~50 scribe DVDs so far, and about that many CD LS discs. The CD ones are great. I take my original music disc with all the track listings etc. and put it on my flatbed scanner. I save the scanned image to my documents folder, and open: (a DVD picture looks better for this example, but the same thing works for CDs and CD LS discs)

thats in Nero Express. You only get that option, if you have a lightscribe capable burner. Just thought you might want to see what the program looks like before you get one. I can pull up some more images and show more of the process, and here we go. Its just a program used to print LS discs. I haven't gone thru all the settings, but it is fairly easy to figure out. The only problem i have with using disc scans is the size of the LS disc print area around the hub cuts off some stuff that would be near the hub on a regular ink jet printable disc.
    what it looks like first.
[IMG] that is with a disc scan selected as "background properties" (lots of stuff is done with right mouse click.)
and that is how much will get cut off.
If you do a preview in the preview box option, the program will check your drive to see if you have a LS printable disc (and if you have remembered to flip it over), and will give you a greyscale preview of the disc. If you don't have a LS disc in there, (or forgot to flip it after the burn) the program hangs and says you need to put one in. Works fine, i just wish it would print a disc in color. Happy with the burner, and the discs, just wish they were in color and cheaper. Can't have everything i guess. :)

    Maxburn!

Wait a minute, I have a lighscribe burner and I have the nero package (latest upgrade and eveything) and my "express" has never given me that option.

As a matter of fact, I have yet to figure out WHAT program on my computer is supposed to let me do the lighscribe disk. [bold]Actually there is one particular program that came with the comp - Intervideo something or other and i can use that program - but I do not like it much[/bold]

Anyway, back to the Ner Express thing - Any thoughts on this??? FYI - my lightscribe came w/ the computer - its an HP

    andmerr, to your question ~

I'm not too sure what you were asking my friend,

Do you mean a variety of disc Mfgr’s ? Or of discs themselves ?

As to Mfgr’s, HP themselves of course make discs for their invention of the burning labels to discs. We then have Verbatims (always a good choice. I've only had one coaster and that was because Nero won't close it's window when burning and so I stopped the burning. When I started it again, the disc was already burned too and was no good. 110% my fault.

    For discs we have:

    1. CD-R's made by HP, TDK, Phillips and Verbatim - as low as $.60 each (USD) (Prices by Google :)

2 Divider’s made by HP, TDK, Phillips and Verbatim - as low as $.99 each (USD) (Prices by Google :)

Burners made by HP, BenQ and recently Lite-on.

Other companies joining in all the time

TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS ABOUT COLOR.

As our good friend ireland has already posted, sea his post on page 1, 60% of the way down the page - much good info there. ~> http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/241802
HP announced that full color discs will be available in 2006. Be patient my little "Chick-a-dees" ~ The “good stuff” is on it’s way.

    That's all the news, that's good news, that's in the news ~ ~ ~ ~

    @Matt32,

Your Lacie is made for LabelFlash NOT LightScribe. LabelFlash is promoted by Yamaha & Fujifilm. They are attempting to enter the LightScribe market to compete with HP.

Refer to ireland's post , page 2 of this thread, LQQK about 3/4's of the way down the page. It'll give you an idea of what's transpiring in the label-burning world. ~> http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2/241802

    BTW,
I got my BenQ 1625 which does 16X, DL, DVD +/- R/ RW and 52X CD’s AND LightScribe and I paid $79.00 (USD) for it :)

With just a little shopping, you s/b able to find it a lot cheaper.

    @ All,

Can someone PLEASE tell this old guy why pple just read and respond to the last post in a thread ?

Iffin' pple would READ this short, silly thread, they would sea answers to the questions they were about to ask. T'would save themselves a bit "O" typing and they wouldn't have to sea their name in print. :)

Naaah, silly me, ~ ~ ~ it would be too much work AND BESIDES, they LIKE sea'n their name in print.

    Just forget I asked . . . . . just a little silly ScubaPete musing . . . . .

Interesting point scuba pete I'm wondering why lacie chose not to say they are using label flash and not lightscribe technology (which after doing a deep google I found lightscribe initially was not color capable). Being that I am in the military I jumped and bought this burner as the price was 139 USD and I consider that a steal with USB 2 capabilities. I have to order from certain retailers that will only ship over here so other than verbs and memorex I haven't seen any other lightscribe capable disks.

@ Ireland I think i need to keep an eye on your posts as you always have info that is very informative.

I'm in the military dang it we aren't privy to certain products where I'm deployed.

Thanks for the heads up when I get back home I know I need to do some shopping:).

    @gwendolin,

I think we've had this discussion once before. I don't have a problem with status what I have always said it does not matter. Now it was and never will be a personal attack but simply an example of how wayward (topic-wise) things can get. A complaint to the mods isn't necessary; also justifying to me or anyone other than the powers to be is not. But as I stated all that I posted in regards to that scenario you took it personal instead of an overall personal view I have. We all contribute as well as we can lets keep on track and learn that everyone has a right to their opinion. As a matter of fact sorry I even got off-topic....don't want to get involved in a flame war topic was going good and informative.
