Fixed my mates "the box" with the guide, thanks.

    Had 2 problems.
    1. I was flashing 4.54 and it had 2 bin files to flash on, first the firmware and then the logo.bin file. Problem was I tried to do them the same way, the guide that came in the zip/rar file didn't give info on uploading the logo file. you have to select background file rather than app to load the logo file.

    2. Channel dump- seems you need a channel dump suited to 4.54 for it to work, I flashed others with no success. I only found 1 and it wasnt great and was missing loads of channels. A recsan got them in but with duplicates. The channels were not put in the existing channel lists so I could not scroll through them sideways when you press OK. I did a reset and scanned again.

hi all, my eyes are going square from reading posts but cant find the answer to my problem.
i bought a 'the box super'. i've counted the vents and i thinks its genuine. i've downloaded gtrom 7.09beta and i've bought what i think is a null modem cable with a usb adaptor. got that on ebay, so thats the bit im worried about.
is there anyway of telling the difference between a null modem cable and an rs232 by looking at it?

i've scanned for channels and the box itself is working but obviously only showing fta channels so then i hooked it up to my laptop. i've installed the driver for the usb adaptor and changed the port number to port 2. i've set the gtrom loader to com2 and turned to box to standby (the clock shows up) and then i've hit download. its sits at o% and then after a short while a message pops up telling me 'flash update fail'

where am i going wrong?? i've trawled the forum so apologies if im duplicating a question

    hello everybody,

i've the starview box in the pix below, which i assume it's a genuine one, and id be very gratefull if anyone could explain me (or direct me to a step by step guide appropriate for my type of box) how to flash the box to avoid trouble in finding and changing codes anymore.
I apologise in case this has been already previously explained or asked but i've been away for a few months and from reading all previous threads and posts looks it's the only option left. Any help is deeply appreciated as i'm very bad with these sort of things and pc unskilled. Thanks a lot to anyone will help and tell me what to buy and what to do to get channells back up and running

    (my box)

This is if you have a starview 1 Genuine.

1, Select Bin file and Browse to where you saved your firmware on your PC.

2 "File Type" make sure App File Only is selected,

3, To get to Device Manager, Press "start", right click "My computer" select device manager. click on the + at the side of Ports (COM & LPT).

4, If your using a Null modem cable make sure the serial port is the same as section 5 in my case its either (COM3 or COM4) so for my settings I would change Serial Port pull down menu on the loader to either 3 then press Download, and if that didn't work i would then try 4.

If your using a USB adaptor it will show up under the name of the adaptor in (COMS & LPT) and you would do the same match the loader Serial ports with the USB adator ports.

    Try this eoin,
Turn the b0x off at the back, then click download, after about 2 seconds turn the b0x back on & see if that works.(you might have to try it a few times).
Apologies, but i`m heading to bed, but theres always someone here who`ll sort you out :) Best of luck.

Put this on another thread but I'll stick it here too just so to make it more likely someone who's had the same problem might be able to help me.

I'm having the same problem with the Starview clone. I flashed it for a mate a couple of months ago when all the new softwares were released for the various boxes and it worked perfectly up until about two or three weeks ago. I've tried reuploading the bin file CryptStar-v1.4-Core257 and it seems to go to plan but when I check system info in the menu after it says:

    API ver: 2.57_E
    Boot ver: 7.0
    16.Aug.2006

When I went to do a scan all the channels were found but they're all scrambled. I'm in South Dublin but its not the connection as we have two other boxes (a Eurovox and Replaylite) running in the house perfectly which I flashed myself a few months ago. I also tried that "set default key" suggestion and to no luck. Its also not a case of having the wrong cable because I used the Null Modem to flash a few others before. Any help is much appreciated, thanks lads.

Sounds like you haven't turned the EMU on after upgrading the firmware.

Press MENU, then 1570, make sure the bottom entry, Key EMU is ON, then exit back out.

You have the correct cable eoin. Silly question i know, but is the b0x disconnected from the TV when you`re trying to flash it?

Delete the firmw@re from your desktop, & dowload it again.
    Try flashing it again.
If you`re still having problems, have a read of celtics guide here in case you`re missing something
